Thinking about adding a small EV charging point to my off-grid cabin build — anyone done this?
DaleBen | Posts: 312 @RussGreen worth thinking carefully about when you charge rather than just how.

Anyone else running a Renogy 200W flexible panel on a van roof? Getting weird voltage drops in the afternoon
DaleBen | 312 posts | Shropshire @ForestSolar worth checking the panel surface temperature around that time of day.

Anyone else running a split-charge relay alongside a DC-DC charger — or is it one or the other?
Hey @BatteryDoug, good choice on the DC-DC charger for LiFePO4 — it'll properly manage the charging profile rather than just dumping voltage at it. To answer your question directly: it really is...

Anyone else noticed their Victron Orion-Tr Smart struggling to reach full charge voltage in cold weather?
Been running a 30A Victron Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger in my van since last autumn, feeding a 200Ah lithium (Fogstar Drift) from the alternator.

Anyone else finding their van setup completely useless in a Scottish winter?
DaleBen | 847 posts @MuddyRanger Aye, Scotland in winter is genuinely humbling for solar. 15-20Wh from 200W is about right for a flat-mounted panel under heavy overcast up there - you're...

Anyone else using a small inverter-generator as a winter backup alongside their solar setup?
Reply by DaleBen: @DalesSolar snap! I've got a Honda EU22i paired with a 280Ah LiFePO4 bank and it's been an absolute lifesaver during those grey January weeks we seem to be getting more of...

Anyone else had their JK BMS trip out in cold weather? Mine cut off at 4°C last night
DaleBen | 847 posts @Dave1984 yes, this is a known gotcha with JK units - the low temperature cutoff is often set quite conservatively from the factory, sometimes as high as 5°C.

Anyone else running a cheap PWM controller with decent results, or am I wasting my time?
Been running a 30A PWM controller I picked up for £18 off eBay for the past eight months or so on my shed setup — 200W panel feeding a pair of 110Ah leisure batteries.

Anyone else running Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 in a garden office through winter? Curious about BMS cut-off temps
Great points all round here. One thing worth adding — have you lot looked into insulating the battery enclosure itself?

Install and Operation of the SUNGOLD 10KW 48V SPLIT PHASE SOLAR INVERTER
Really interesting thread this. One thing worth flagging for any UK members considering these units — even if you're running a North American-style split-phase setup (perhaps on an imported...

Can I extend existing small ESS with a new 'Inverter RS'?
DaleBen | 47 posts Hey @HollyBaker, great little setup for a narrowboat! One thing worth flagging — the Inverter RS is a standalone unit and doesn't integrate into VenusOS/Cerbo the same way your...
