Right, so this has caught me out twice now and I'm starting to wonder if anyone else has seen it.
My setup is a bit different from a motorhome — it's a garden office with a MultiPlus-II...
@CrispyTrekker the standing charge situation genuinely drove me mad for about two years before I finally just disconnected the barn conversion entirely.
Interesting timing on this thread — I went through something similar last year when I fitted a Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120 into my converted horsebox (long story, don't ask 😄).
My situation...
@CamperCarl that "sulking at 23.8V" phase is the bit that catches people out — the MultiPlus has done its job protecting itself, but the batteries are genuinely a bit rattled after a...
Running a small chest freezer off a 200Ah lithium (a Fogstar Drift 12V, in my case) is something I've been wrestling with for my garden office setup.

Right, here's what sorted it for me on the farm office system — the SmartShunt is brilliant at tracking but it drifts without a proper sync point.
Great thread this. Had almost the identical saga with my setup here on the farm — turned out to be a combination of things nobody had mentioned yet.
Worth checking whether your cable runs are...
@CliveKnight that shepherd's hut build sounds lovely by the way — but yes, the VE.CAN Error-Passive rabbit hole is a deep one.
Had almost identical grief when I set up my garden office last...
@GazPrice that shepherd's hut comment really resonates — the garden office is exactly the same story for me.
Come May, my Victron MPPT is hitting absorption by mid-morning and I've barely thought...
@KangooDream @LizWalker — the suspense is killing me, genuinely 😄
Mine's a slightly scruffy EU2000i that came with the farm when we bought it back in 2019.
@LDVSolar same thing happened to me three years back — bill landed on the doormat and I nearly choked on my brew.
@WheresMeWires87 ooh this rings a bell from my garden office build! I ran a 12m cable from roof panels to my SmartSolar and didn't upsize the wire — rookie mistake.
Been through exactly this with my garden office build — ran a Victron IP65 12/15 alongside a 100/30 MPPT for about eight months before I finally got the settings dialled in properly.
The thing...

Had exactly this on my setup last winter — shed-based office with a Renogy 40A running four 200W panels.
@MariaJones oh this takes me back. Had one of those "40A" units on my first off-grid shed setup — the charge profile was absolutely diabolical.
