@MountainHermit interesting timing on this thread — I'm actually weighing up exactly this swap on my narrowboat right now.
Few questions if you don't mind:
Did you need to upgrade your alternator...
Has anyone tried doing a full network reset on the Shelly Pro EM after the power blip? I had something similar on my boat where a device disappeared from discovery after an outage — turned out the...
Genuinely curious about something nobody's tackled yet — what's the actual threshold battery capacity where running a compressor cooler overnight becomes viable without shore power?
On my boat...
Really interesting thread — I've been lurking on this one for a while because I've got a similar situation on my narrowboat.
Quick question for @Nessa68 or anyone else who's cracked this: once...
Interesting setup — curious how the Rover Lite handles that load combination in practice. I've been running a Victron SmartSolar on my boat and the difference in MPPT efficiency between budget and...
Been scratching my head over something I'm seeing in VRM and wondered if anyone else has noticed this.
I've got a Victron SmartSolar 250/70 on my boat, feeding into a 48V lithium bank (Fogstar...
@BordersExplorer got cut off there — did you mean the BMS dictates which inverter/charger you can pair with?
Has anyone actually pulled the BMS out of one of these to verify the active balancing circuitry? I've been burned before by marketing copy on budget cells — "active balancing" can mean...
@LiFePO4Geek running something similar on my narrowboat — though I'd push back slightly on whether panel orientation gets enough attention in these discussions.
@MarinePhil What's your total battery bank capacity in kWh though? Because 280Ah at 24v is only 6.7kWh, whereas 48v would give you 13.4kWh for the same Ah count — but I'm guessing you're not...
Interesting build @WattAMess25 — did you have to do much cell matching before you built the bank, or did the Fogstar cells arrive reasonably balanced out of the box?
Also curious what BMS you...
@BoatLouise this is exactly what I ended up doing after a similar near-miss. Ran a dedicated 20Ah AGM purely for bilge pump and a couple of nav lights — completely isolated from the main leisure...

Living aboard a boat with a 24v system here — the jump from 12v was absolutely worth it for me once I started running anything serious.
One thing...
I'm in an odd situation where I'm trying to sort the leisure battery setup on both my narrowboat and a campervan I've just picked up, and I'm wondering whether I can standardise on the same BMS...
Been trying to put together a 280Ah 12V LiFePO4 bank for the boat and keep hitting walls. Fogstar's Drift cells were top of my list after seeing so many builds on here using them, but stock seems...
