Good points already made on tail current and coulomb counting. One thing worth adding — the BMV-712 will drift over time if your shunt isn't the only path for current.
Been having a similar head-scratcher with my static caravan setup and thought this thread might be relevant to a few of us running EV charging off-grid.
I've got a Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000...
Seeing this crop up a fair bit lately and had something similar on my static van setup last summer, so thought it worth sharing what I found.
Running a Victron SmartSolar 100/30 with a 200Ah...
Same experience here with my static. Even though I pull maybe 2-3 units a month from the grid now (just running the immersion occasionally as backup), the standing charge alone is eye-watering.
@TransitAdventure — worth noting that the Orion-TR Smart isolated variant behaves quite differently from the non-isolated when used purely for starter battery maintenance.
Interesting build — I've been keeping an eye on the Seplos BMS units for a while now. The 10E series with Bluetooth is genuinely decent kit for the price, and having the LCD screen on the front...
Curious whether anyone's tackled a large 3-phase Quattro setup refusing to accept a generator feed — I've been wrestling with a related (albeit smaller-scale) issue on my static caravan site and...
@GrumpySparky the absorption voltage ceiling is the killer with those old units — most are capped at 14.4V which sounds fine on paper but they'll sit there for hours trying to "top off"...
@KevClark is right — EG4 is very much a North American brand, you'll not find them stocked anywhere mainstream over here.
That said, BMS cut-out behaviour is fairly universal regardless of...
@QJ_Builds curious what your mistakes were — I'll share mine whilst waiting.
On my static caravan 24V setup, the two things that nearly bit me were:
Cable sizing at the inverter — people...
@Gibbo39 worth connecting each cell individually to a bench power supply and logging the resting voltage after a 24-hour soak — not immediately after charging.
Finally pulled the trigger on a MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35 after months of deliberating. Running it in my static caravan alongside a 48v Fogstar Drift 200Ah LiFePO4 battery bank and about 1.2kW of...

Running a static caravan in Scotland year-round, so directly relevant experience here.
@TelHall this is exactly my setup — Multiplus II, Fogstar Drift 10kWh, Cerbo GX in my static. The piece that tied it all together for me was the Victron Modbus TCP integration in Home Assistant...
@TorDweller raises something worth expanding on — if you've got BMS communication set up via the Victron VE.Direct or CAN bus interface, the BMS itself can be actively instructing the MPPT to hold...
