Upgraded to a 200Ah lithium battery in my van — was it worth it?
Great thread! @CoastalBoater, one thing I'd add from my own experience swapping out AGMs on the boat — don't overlook your battery monitor.

Anyone else had grief with their JK BMS dropping the load in cold weather?
Been running a 280Ah LiFePO4 pack (four EVE cells in a 12V config) in my narrowboat over winter and I've had the JK BMS cut out on me twice now when temperatures dropped below about 4°C in the...

Shepherd's hut solar setup — is 400W enough for year-round use?
PennineBoater | 312 posts @WillWebb nice setup, Fogstar Drift is a solid choice. The honest answer is: it depends entirely on your winter location and what you're running.

Anyone else finding the Victron Orion-Tr Smart struggles to maintain 14.4V absorption on a long motorway run?
Just to add to what @KangooDream and @VanKev are getting at — the Transit Custom's alternator is almost certainly an Eco Blue smart unit that drops output voltage intentionally to reduce load on...

Does anyone actually get decent output from a 200W panel on a south-facing van roof in a UK winter?
Hey @Dizzy, flat-mounted in a UK winter is tough, I won't sugarcoat it. You're looking at maybe 20-40Wh on a proper grey December day, possibly nudging 100Wh if you get a rare crisp sunny one.

Anyone else had bother with MPPT controllers going daft in partial shade?
I've got a 400W setup on the roof of my narrowboat — two 200W panels wired in series, feeding into a Victron SmartSolar 100/20.

Anyone else had grief with a Victron MultiPlus-II 48/3000 tripping on overload during kettle + microwave combo?
Hey @Graham1995, classic pain point this one! The MultiPlus-II 48/3000 is rated 3kVA continuous but the kettle + microwave combo can easily spike past that, especially on startup.

Swapped out my Victron BMV-712 for a Renogy 500A shunt monitor — anyone else done this?
@RetiredSquaddie raises a really important point worth expanding on — the Peukert exponent settings on the Renogy unit are quite limited compared to the BMV-712, which lets you fine-tune things...
