Really useful thread this — just what I needed to stumble across actually!
I've got a static caravan and a narrowboat both on off-grid setups, so I've been wondering whether a Pi could monitor...
@DanPhillips that's a cracking deal on the Wanderer!
Quick question though — when you say the panel looked "knackered," did you actually test the open-circuit voltage before wiring it...

Not sure if this helps but have you tried just using a dedicated battery monitor instead of relying on the controller's readings?

@KangooBuild running something fairly similar on my narrowboat — 48V bank feeding a slow EV charge overnight.
Good point from @HUO_Boats on the surge. One thing worth adding — have you checked what programme you're running?
Really dumb question maybe but — has anyone tried reaching out to Victron's UK support directly about this?

Ooh this is something I've been wondering about too actually — does the Lynx NG BMS need to "see" specific cell chemistry data or is it more just voltage thresholds and temperature...
@TracyAllen how do you actually go about checking the cells properly though? I've got a cheap multimeter but I'm never quite sure what figures I should be seeing on a second-hand panel — like, is...
Ha, love it @DaleLover — the BMS has trust issues, brilliant 😄
Bit of a tangent but this is exactly why I've been going back and forth on whether to bother with the bundled BMS at all for my...
Got a question about the BMS communication side of things — are you running the Fogstar Drift with the Victron VE.Bus or just relying on the internal BMS to cut things off if it gets angry?
Reason...
Ah, twin alternators into 300Ah at 24V—that's the tricky bit, isn't it? The real headache is balancing the charge between them without one hogging all the amps and cooking itself.
I've got this exact problem on mine, honestly. The real issue I've found isn't just space—it's access.
Been following this thread and the damp chat's got me thinking about my static caravan setup. I've got a similar footprint to yours — roughly 24ft — and I'm wondering if you've had to deal with...
Good thread this. I'm curious though—does the definition shift depending on whether you're stationary or mobile?
