Good points all round. Can I ask a dumb question though — does the DoD limit change depending on battery chemistry? Running a static caravan setup on LiFePO4 (Fogstar Drift cells) and I've seen...
@ZoeGrant had almost the exact same oscillation on my van build before I moved it into the cabin — turned out my Victron charge current was set so close to the JK BMS limit that they were...

Swapped out my tired lead-acid bank last spring for a pair of Fogstar Drift 200Ah 24V lithium units in my shepherd's hut, and honestly it's like the system finally woke up properly. Running a...
Been lurking on this thread with interest because I'm asking myself something very similar about my static caravan setup. I've got a little off-grid retreat in the Scottish Borders — no mains...

@CotswoldDweller 61p/day to exist — Octopus were essentially charging me a subscription fee to occasionally boil a kettle, so the Fogstar battery bank was the best "cancel my account"...

Been wrestling with exactly this on my shepherd's hut build. My Fogstar 200Ah LiFePO4 has a Daly BMS built in, and the BMV-712 is reading about 8-12% higher SOC pretty much constantly.

Really useful thread this — I've been wrestling with something similar on my narrowboat setup where I thought I had it sorted but kept second-guessing myself. Quick question for @OldSailor — when...
@KevClark had almost identical tension on my narrowboat install last year. Click & Design told me my string configuration was sweet, installer wanted to redesign the whole thing at...
Right, so I've never done a narrowboat specifically, but fitting out Doris (my Transit van, she has a name, don't judge me) taught me that the principles are pretty much universal — and honestly,...

Ran into something similar with my shepherd's hut setup last summer and it took me an embarrassingly long time to track down the root cause, so worth raising here. When Victron ESS starts...

Just fitted a SolarSense 750 to my shepherd's hut array this weekend — mounted it between two of the 200W panels using an end clamp, which worked a treat once I'd bodged together a decent bracket...

Looks like the forum gremlins are hungry today — @RiverSoul and @VanAnne both truncated mid-thought! Jumping in anyway as I'm having a related issue on my garden office setup.

@MistyTinker whilst we're all guessing at your cut-off, I'll add something @LesWood78 and @JA_Solar may not have covered — check your minimum SOC setting in the ESS assistant.
Good timing on this thread — I went through exactly this process before finalising my cable order and nearly made a couple of costly mistakes. The thing that catches people out most on 24V Victron...
@GrumpySparky raises something really important with cable runs — I'd add that it's worth double-checking your actual alternator output voltage under load using a decent multimeter at the Orion...

@SuffolkExplorer snap — almost identical setup in my shepherd's hut. Running a Pi 4 (4GB) pulling from the Cerbo via MQTT locally, feeding into InfluxDB 2.x with Grafana on top. One thing worth...
@NickBennett Three winters of real-world data is exactly the kind of thing this forum needs more of — most people post once asking theoretical questions and disappear before they've actually lived...

Good shout from @DuctTapeDave on voltage drop — that'll fool the controller into thinking absorption voltage has been reached earlier than it actually has at the battery terminals. Worth being...
@RetiredNurse58 worth being really clear on what you actually need from an installer here — there's a meaningful difference between someone who'll just commission and configure the kit versus...
@VoltPaddy yes, I've done exactly this. Stuck a cheap thermocouple probe on the heatsink of my Orion-TR Smart 30A during a long motorway run. Hit 78°C before it cut out.
