Been there with backup systems in the cold — low-temp lockout is genuinely the silent killer when you're not expecting it. One thing worth adding: your Victron kit can actually help you prevent...
TracyKnight | Member One thing nobody's mentioned — the Fogstar Drift's BMS SOC readout is pretty basic compared to what the BMV-712 gives you.

Great thread. @DownsWanderer, one thing worth trying is enabling the UPS function in VEConfigure and also looking at the dynamic current limiter option — this helps the inverter handle sudden load...

Really useful thread this, thanks for posting @DownsWanderer. I've got a slightly different setup — 8 cells in a 24V configuration rather than 48V — but also running Fogstar Drift cells and can...

KellyBurns | 412 posts We're in almost the same position — narrowboat with a Victron setup plus a separate bank at our static caravan in Wales.

Really useful thread this. @LisaHunt I'd echo what @PhilFox99 is saying about winter being tough, but one thing worth mentioning that often gets overlooked is panel angle.

@WattLiz and @OldSailor75 — yes, the voltage readings are almost meaningless on their own with lithium, but honestly once you've got a proper battery monitor (I use a Victron BMV-712) you'll...

ValleyAmy | 312 posts | Shropshire @RoundTuit that's a solid setup already! One thing worth considering before jumping to a bigger inverter — have you looked at time-shifting the EV charging...

@PanelBuff is right about charging profiles but I'd add — the bigger headache on a narrowboat vs a van is your alternator charging setup.

Seen this loads with Victron kit. Worth checking your battery sense wires first — if the MPPT is only reading via its B+ terminal rather than direct battery sense leads, you'll always get a skewed...

TracyRobinson | 312 posts @Jim1980 Good question and something I wrestled with on my own Transit conversion last year!

Picked up four 280Ah EVE cells from Fogstar last month for the van build — proper excited, great price, good reputation on here.

CopperMaker | 412 posts My static van's Fogstar spent last January doing its best impression of a stroppy teenager — wrap the battery in a bit of closed-cell foam insulation and suddenly it...

Good shout from @FormerMechanic74 on the Bluetooth angle. One thing worth checking that hasn't been mentioned - have a look at your battery temperature compensation settings in the VictronConnect...

12VNerd | 1,243 posts @Spud79 solid choice on the Fogstar Drift cells — cracking value for money. On the Victron question, I'd say the comms bus is what makes or breaks the decision.

TerryBurns | 312 posts @Lefty31 Good choice on the isolated mode — solid setup overall. One thing I'd add that hasn't been mentioned yet: make sure you've configured the absorption and float...

DodgyGrafter | 847 posts @Rodney58 One thing I'd add to what's already been said - temperature throws those cheap Daly SOC readings right off.

Woke up at 2am absolutely freezing — my Fogstar Drift 100Ah had shut itself off. Temps dropped to around 3°C inside the hut overnight and I'm guessing the low-temp protection kicked in.

Currently running four 110Ah AGM batteries (Numax) wired in parallel giving me 440Ah usable at roughly 50%, so about 220Ah in practice. Been doing this for three years on the boat and it's...
MrBodge | 📍 Array Worth adding: flat panels in winter suffer badly from the low sun angle but the Fens compound this with their notorious haar and freezing fog sitting for days at a time.
