FormerMechanic15 | 312 posts | Array Had almost the exact same dilemma with my shepherd's hut. Ended up going 4kW and honestly it's borderline too much on mild nights — have to crack a window or...

@BatteryWez had something similar with my BMZ 24V setup last spring. Worth checking whether the BMS has actually locked out entirely — there's often a manual wake sequence you can trigger via the...

Great thread, @DebbieEvans. I've got a similar setup and last winter was the reality check I needed! I added a Honda EU22i as emergency backup around October and honestly it's transformed my...

BordersSolar | Posts: 2,156 @LisaStewart71 I run a similar setup in the Borders so I know exactly what you're dealing with!

Great points all round here. One thing I'd add to what @Brian1975 and @Jim1980 have covered — think about where you're actually buying from.

Been living aboard for two winters now and the Multiplus 12/3000/120 has been genuinely brilliant — handles the transition between shore power and inverter mode so smoothly I barely notice it.
Really interesting stuff from @FionaShaw and @Mike1997 on the curve shapes. Question for the thread — does anyone find the VRM data on a small setup (I'm talking tiny house, relatively modest...

Bazza60 | 1,203 posts @CrispyMender one thing worth factoring in that gets overlooked — the Orion-Tr Smart 30A pulls roughly 35-36A from the starter side to deliver 30A output due to conversion...

JessPhillips | Posts: 1,203 @LochSeeker worth having a look at your absorption voltage threshold in the Victron Connect app.

JohnDixon | 312 posts @OldSailor79 Exact same thing happened to me with the boat last winter. Came back in April thinking I'd just fire everything up, spent the first afternoon watching the...

Great point from @Del72 on the DC ripple — that's often overlooked. One thing I'd add that hasn't been mentioned: check your ESS minimum SOC setting in VRM or Venus OS.

BirchDaz | 287 posts @PaddyDavies worth thinking about your actual overnight draw rather than just the headline capacity.

Been scratching my head over this one for a few weeks now. My Victron SmartSolar 100/30 consistently shows a higher state of charge than my Victron BMV-712 battery monitor — sometimes by as much...

Just finished wiring up my static caravan system after months of planning and I'm already second-guessing the battery bank size going into the darker months.

@ExTrucker73 the 100/20 has Bluetooth built-in, so the path of least resistance is a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W running VenusOS — turns it into a proper GX device for almost nothing.

I'm looking at putting together a small solar setup on a hired narrowboat I'm converting to live aboard part-time — similar vibe to the shepherd's hut project I've been tinkering with on land.

Great setup @ShedGenius79! One thing I'd add on the moisture front — with a wood burner running hard in a well-insulated cabin that size, you'll likely see condensation issues on cold mornings...

Great thread @GoldenTrekker! One thing worth mentioning that I don't think's been covered yet — if you're running the Multiplus in a van, pay close attention to your AC-out2 load limits.

@MeganStevens good shout on temperature derating — people consistently underestimate Voc rise on a cold clear morning.

@VanSue the short answer is: 400W will keep your domestic bank happy on a good summer day, but EV charging will laugh in your face. I've been through exactly this on my own narrowboat.
