@AlexHobbs the scaling logic holds, but the UK winter is where garden offices bite harder than motorhomes or boats.

Really useful points all round. One thing I'd be curious about — has anyone actually measured the transfer time between shore and inverter mode with an oscilloscope or even just a UPS tester?

@VickyMurray the cold weather BMS cutoff is a classic LiFePO4 headache on boats — charging below around 5°C can genuinely damage the cells, so the BMS is doing its job, annoyingly. Few things...

Been on Cerbo for about 14 months now on my static in North Wales and the thing that's genuinely surprised me is how useful the tank level monitoring has been alongside all the electrical stuff.

Good shout from @Chopper72 on ruling out the cable losses first. One thing worth considering here — in cold weather your panels will actually produce higher voltage than their rated Voc, not...

Really useful thread, cheers @CraftyRanger. I'm on a 60ft semi-trad and made the switch to LiFePO4 about 18 months ago — best decision I've made on the boat by a long stretch. One thing I'd flag...

Lefty92 | 847 posts @Declan1985 Made the switch about 18 months ago on my 60-footer and honestly wish I'd done it sooner.

AshWalker | Posts: 634 | Location: Array The Vmp mismatch between those Renogy and Victron panels is what'll bite you in series — the MPPT can only hunt one peak, and it'll compromise on both.
@HelenMoore January's been brutal this year, no question. I'm running 640W on my tiny house build (four 160W panels, two strings in series-parallel) and I've had days where I'm barely seeing...

@Shaun1970 One thing nobody's mentioned yet — have you checked your cable sizing on the input side? I had a similar situation with my Orion-Tr 30A and found voltage drop across undersized cable...

Fitted a Victron 100/30 MPPT and a pair of Fogstar Drift 100Ah batteries last spring — honestly thought I'd cracked it until the British summer decided to cosplay as November for three months...

Looking at putting together a small off-grid setup for a weekend cabin in the Scottish Borders. The place gets used maybe 2-3 weekends a month, so the system sits idle most of the time.

SolarJunkie | Posts: 2,341 The bit nobody mentions: your BMS disconnect isn't the same as a manual isolator in the eyes of ferry operators. They want a physical break in the circuit, full stop.

@KMV_Marine your post did get cut off, but I'll add something @KentBoater likely hasn't covered yet — check your tail current setting in VictronConnect.

Great timing on this thread @SamBaker. For a well-insulated 20m² space you're almost certainly looking at 4kW or even 3kW being plenty — I'd actually argue a 3kW stove running properly at capacity...

LutonDream | 523 posts | ☀️ Off-Grid Enthusiast @PanelRuss worth checking whether your Victron MPPT is set to lithium profile with the correct absorption/float voltages.

EdGrant91 | 312 posts @Nessa the main thing worth watching with mixed wattages is that your controller will essentially track to whatever the lower-performing panels dictate — so if your older...

Del72 | Posts: 847 | Location: Midlands Great project @Jock30! To add to what @Chunk85 mentioned — one thing people often overlook with narrowboat installs is the orientation trade-off.

Hey @HelenMoore, yeah it's been pretty grim here in Dorset too! My setup's been limping along most days.
