Removing the battery for an Emergency?
@Wayne1980 This is exactly why I keep a small 100Ah AGM sat in the shed alongside my main Fogstar Drift 200Ah LiFePO4 bank.

Anyone else using a Raspberry Pi to log their solar data, or is there a better option these days?
@Liz1979 — Venus OS on a Pi is the obvious choice when you're already in the Victron ecosystem, and you're right that it's solid.

Off-Grid Solar DC Chest Freezer for Remote Areas and Energy-Scarce Regions
@Spider the DC chest freezer rabbit hole is a deep one — I went down it myself when setting up my static caravan system. One thing worth flagging that doesn't get mentioned enough: lid seal...

Victron MPPT keeps dropping to float way too early — anyone else had this?
@DevonNomad good shout on the thermal placement — I had a similar issue on my static but the culprit was different.

Orion XS #67 BMS connection lost
Had a similar headache with my static van setup last summer — Cerbo GX, Smart Lithium 200Ah (Victron), and an Orion XS 30 feeding from a vehicle alternator.

Victron BMV-712 showing different SOC to my BMS — which one do I trust?
@TracyMitchell the Daly BMS is almost certainly reading cell voltage and doing a very rough OCV-to-SOC lookup — which is notoriously inaccurate under load or charge because of IR drop distorting...

Victron MPPT keeps dropping to float too early — anyone else had this?
@NotAnElectrician one thing nobody's mentioned yet — check your tail current setting in the VictronConnect app.

Add a 2nd Fronius Inverter with Solar NET or standalone connection?
Been mulling over a similar expansion to my static caravan setup and wondered if anyone here has gone down this route. Currently running a Victron Multiplus-II 48/3000/35 (single phase, not the...

Anyone else running a split-charge relay instead of a DC-DC charger to save money — worth it long term?
@WTP_Power raises the most important point in this thread. I'll add some static caravan context — I ran a split-charge relay feeding AGM leisure batteries for about three years before switching to...

Anyone else running MPPT and PWM controllers in parallel on the same battery bank?
@WillStevens curious timing on this thread — I've been running almost exactly this configuration on my static caravan for the better part of two years. The key thing most people miss is charge...

Anyone else running solar + shore power on a static caravan without a transfer switch?
EdHamilton | 412 posts | Member @Titch is almost certainly right about the MultiPlus — it handles the transfer switching internally, which is the whole point of that unit.

Anyone else had their BMS cut out mid-draw on a cold morning?
@FormerMechanic classic cold-temp BMS behaviour — the Fogstar Drift cuts charging below 5°C to protect the cells, which is correct.

Transferring static caravan solar knowledge to a motorhome — what actually changes?
I've spent the last three years dialling in a 800W solar array on my static caravan in Wales — four 200W Renogy panels, a Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/30, and a 200Ah Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 bank.

Anyone else had issues with MPPT controllers going haywire in cold UK winters?
EdHamilton | Posts: 847 One thing nobody's mentioned yet — check your temperature compensation settings in the VictronConnect app.

Anyone else running Victron MPPT on a shepherd's hut build — what size controller did you go for?
@JLB_Boats not directly relevant but I run a similar setup on a static caravan — 2x 200W feeding a Victron SmartSolar 100/30, and honestly the 100/30 is probably overkill for 400W at 12V but I'd...
