Been down this road myself — not with the Datouboss specifically, but a comparable Chinese inverter paired with a budget 48V pack on my boat.
Ran into something eerily similar on my motorhome last winter — Cerbo GX on v3.79, MultiPlus-II 3000, Fogstar Drift 200Ah on CAN-bus.
@Moorey44 the suspense is real — but I'd wager the culprit was voltage sag under load rather than resting voltage. Classic trap that one.
My Multiplus on the cabin setup did exactly this.
Ran into something similar on my motorhome build a couple of years back — took me far longer than I'd like to admit to track down the culprit.
@ThistleRunner that matches what I found when I wired my SmartShunt into the Cerbo on my cabin setup.
@DeclanKnight57 and @Macca97 — the setting that transformed my BMV-712 accuracy was the Peukert exponent.
@DerekDixon curious what damage you actually saw on the narrowboat — the BP or something downstream?
The way I sorted a similar headache on my motorhome was ditching the BatteryProtect altogether...
Really glad this thread came up. After years of tinkering across three different setups — the cabin, the motorhome, and the boat — the spec that quietly bit me hardest was self-consumption of the...
@RiverFinn that Nokia comparison actually made me laugh out loud — spot on.
I went down a slightly different route on my cabin setup.
Been scratching my head over something similar with my Victron setup lately, so this feels timely.
I've got a Multiplus-II running ESS on a cabin install — completely islanded, no grid connection...
@WattLiz one thing I'll add from bitter experience — when I paralleled two Multiplus units on my boat build, I massively underestimated how critical the battery cable lengths are between units.
@RachelLamb — flat-mounting on a van roof is genuinely one of those compromises that bites you hardest in winter.
@Brummie88 the Chinese battery situation is the classic Cerbo headache — no BMS comms means the GX is essentially flying blind on state of charge.
What sorted it for me on my motorhome build was...
Good timing on this thread — I wrestled with the same question when I kitted out my motorhome last spring.
Ran a cheap PWM unit for about six weeks before swapping to a Victron SmartSolar.
@RobWebb59 this took me completely by surprise on my narrowboat last February. Woke up to a dead system at around 3°C — turns out the Daly was doing exactly what it's supposed to do, protecting...
