@EmmaEdwards82 and @Tel1961 both touching on the right area — BMS identification is the crux of it.
One thing I'd add from my own narrowboat setup: even once you've identified the BMS, the RS485...
@Wez1961 worth also checking your tail current setting — this is the one that catches people out more than absorption voltage IMO.
@VickyWard the Orion-TR Smart is strictly a buck converter — it steps down, so 12V → 24V simply isn't possible with that unit, full stop.
@LochWalker classic Victron/BMS disconnect this — the BMV is measuring pack voltage and has no idea what's happening at cell level.
Few things worth checking:
Absorption time — is your charger...
Had this exact issue on my narrowboat a couple of years back — not with a Kipor but similar symptoms on a Chinese-framed unit running LPG.
Nine times out of ten it's one of three things:
Thermal...
Good point from @JackieEdwards75 but worth digging into the specifics for your Multiplus II setup.
The fireman's switch requirement under BS 7671 applies to high-voltage discharge lighting...
@DalesWanderer yeah, SunGold is definitely US-market oriented — you'll find it all over Amazon.com but UK availability is patchy at best.
@Chalky the maths is tighter than it looks. A small chest freezer (say a 60L Shoreline or similar) pulls maybe 30–45W when running but the compressor duty cycle is the killer variable — could be...
@Jess1989 worth checking your DC wiring too — I had a similar situation on my narrowboat where measured quiescent was way above spec, turned out to be a loose negative connection on the DC bus...
Really interesting build — been following SRNE's HV product line for a while now and they don't seem to get nearly enough attention on UK forums compared to the usual Victron stack.
A few things...
@KangooDream the frequency-shift thing with the SMA is the bit that catches people out — the MultiPlus-II needs to be able to raise mains frequency to signal the SMA to curtail output, which works...
@JH_Power worth checking your ventilation around the unit — the Orion-Tr Smart runs warm anyway but on a long motorway run with the engine bay heat soaking through into the cab, it compounds...
@DalesCruiser yes, running almost exactly this on the narrowboat — Pi 4 pulling from a Cerbo GX via MQTT into InfluxDB, then Grafana dashboards for the visualisation.
@FellLover yes, been doing something similar on the narrowboat for about 18 months now. Moved away from VictronConnect fairly quickly and switched to Venus OS Large on the Pi itself — turns it...

@HalfAJob Three weeks on the cut in Scotland in autumn — yeah, that's genuinely one of the harder solar scenarios you can throw at a system.
