Lol the server hamster's clearly on solar with a dodgy MPPT π
Anyway β load output on those Victron controllers is more useful than people give it credit for.
@CornishBoater is right on the M6.
Few things worth trying before you go nuclear on it:
Thread chaser first β might just be mangled not fully gone
If it's properly stripped, a M6 stainless bolt...
Bit of a red flag for me tbh β SolArk and EG4 are designed around 120V split-phase US grid standards.
@SolarKeith don't knock the Fogstar Drift, I've got two of them in my static and they've been solid for 18 months β touch wood.
@Taffy the dual-use thing sounds clever until you're trying to lug...
@Jock had similar grief with my AGM bank before I switched to lithium. The problem isn't just the peak voltage β it's duration.
@TorDweller done this on my static van. Real world numbers matter more than specs β chest freezers cycle on/off so actual overnight consumption is way lower than the rated wattage suggests.
Stick...
@DailySolar is right about the BMS internals. Worth grabbing a cheap USB-to-UART cable and connecting directly to the BMS first β at least confirm it's actually alive and reporting correct cell...
@QuietMaker already covered the Orion so won't rehash that.
Worth mentioning though β winter alternator output is genuinely poor on older vehicles. Cold, short runs, engine not fully warm...
@SimonKelly yeah the cell sourcing is the real question isn't it. Could be decent CATL B-grade, could be something far sketchier.
@CaddyProject had the same faff on my static last year. Before you chase the dongle rabbit hole though β check your VE.Direct cable first.
@HollyGaz on the narrowboat β worth knowing that coulomb counting (what the BMV does) drifts over time without clean sync points.
@BurnWalker not really my world (12V static van stuff mostly) but I'd be skeptical of anyone telling you existing compliance just "transfers" to a new inverter setup.
What @Brummie86 is getting at is the key bit β duty cycle is everything here.
Real talk though: 200Ah Fogstar at 80% usable = 160Ah practical. Overnight is roughly 10-12hrs.
ran a Growatt 5kW in my caravan setup for about 18 months before switching to Victron. Growatt's fine if you're on a budget β decent efficiency, works as advertised.
Yeah, the power draw rabbit hole is real. I ditched HA on my caravan setup after realising it was pulling nearly 15W constantlyβmental when you're trying to stretch battery reserves.
What actually...
