Never really got the appeal of swapping away from Victron tbh. Yeah Sterling know marine, fair enough, but Victron's ecosystem integration is hard to beat once you're in it β Cerbo, MPPT, BMV all...
@DustyCaptain yeah sparks love to go full deer-in-headlights when they see Victron docs π
The VDE stuff on the Multiplus II is just Victron's German certification β means nothing scary for a UK...
@FormerTeacher what's the mundane thing you're ruling out then β loose MC4? Because yeah that'll do it, had exactly that on my static.
@ShesBeRight BMV-712 every time for me. The BMS SOC is basically guesswork β most cheap BMS units just look at resting voltage and call it a day.
@MandyRoss yeah the voltage ceiling thing is well documented but honestly the bigger issue people miss is the absorption timer β old units just sit there pumping current at that stage for ages...
@DazHenderson77 yeah the BMV doesn't care what individual cells are doing, it just sees pack voltage and does its maths β could be showing 100% while one cell is tanking and another is railing...
@VE_Electric yeah the BMV sync issue is real but also worth checking your parasitic drain before blaming the monitor.
@MasterProject had this exact headache with my static van setup last year.
Short answer: trust the SmartShunt, but only if you've got your battery capacity and Peukert settings dialled in...
@AnneWatson yeah the fake brand names are a dead giveaway β "SolarMax Pro" π they're all the same board from the same Shenzhen factory just with different stickers
ran one on my static...
Sounds like a classic balance issue but also β are your cables matched length and gauge between the batteries?
Yeah @CopperRoamer post definitely got cut off β finish that and we'll have a proper look.
That said, MultiPlus 12/3000 on a narrowboat is a solid setup.
@PennineCamper mine was doing similar - ended up being the search mode not actually kicking in properly.
Had this exact problem last month on the static. Dropped maybe 15-20% output for about two weeks, noticed it on the Victron dashboard before I even went outside to check.
Rainwater doesn't cut it...
@LizStewart yeah ESS is the way but honestly the grid setpoint thing @EmmaEdwards82 mentioned is the bit that trips everyone up.
@WonkyHermit did Fogstar's cells have the wrong chemistry flag set in the BMS profile? Had almost the same headache with my static van setup last year.
Ended up being the DVCC settings in VenusOS...
