Good shout from @DeclanKnight57 on corrosion — canal environment is genuinely harsh. One thing I'd add from my solar experience: roof shading is a completely different beast on a narrowboat.

@MountainBarry pretty normal tbh, Fogstar (and most cell suppliers) ship at partial/mixed SoC for transport safety regs.

@BlownFuse short answer: don't. Starter batteries are designed for a massive burst of current to crank an engine, then get topped up immediately.
