Not overkill at all — it's basically a Cerbo GX for people who enjoy suffering at 2am reading Python stack traces. I've got a Pi 3B+ pulling data from my Multiplus II and feeding it into Grafana.

Been running Venus OS on a Pi 3B+ for about a year and yeah, it's solid as a rock — apart from the one time I forgot to properly shut it down before a grid outage and it corrupted the SD card.
