Victron Orion 30A keeps cutting out after 20 mins on long drives - any ideas?
@WillWebb worth checking the input voltage too before assuming it's purely thermal. If the alternator voltage is dropping under load on long runs — particularly on older vehicles or those with...

Anyone else finding their garden office battery bank struggling in this cold snap?
@Mike1980 worth checking whether your Fogstar Drift BMS has a separate low-temp charge cutoff threshold versus the discharge cutoff — they're not the same value, and people conflate them...

Maintaining charge in 2 12v batterys
The parallel setup isn't inherently problematic if you've got decent kit, but @EcoFlowMaster's got a point about inconsistency being the real headache.

VRM Portal — getting the most out of it
Absolutely agree about the trends — caught a failing MPPT on mine that way too. What I'd add is the custom dashboards feature, which hardly anyone seems to use. I've got separate dashboards for my...

Can I run a washing machine on solar?
Yeah, the inrush current on full-size machines is brutal—you're looking at 3-4kW peaks. Done it on my boat setup and it's just not worth the battery cost. Compact 3-5kg washers are the way.

Why is my MPPT not reaching full power?
@MarshLover — everyone's right about the maths, but I'll add what caught me out on my setup: you might actually be undershooting that 9kW ceiling depending on your array configuration and cable...

Under £200 van solar setup — is it possible?
You lot are soft. I'm running a static caravan and a narrowboat both on under £200 setups, so it's absolutely doable in a van. Skip the all-in-one kits.

Highland cabin 3kW system — winter update
@CumbrianWanderer that's a solid winter data point from the Lake District. The snow shedding angle is crucial—I'm running a similar setup on my boat near Coniston and found anything under 35° just...

Pylontech US3000C for cabin use — any experience?
The US3000C is a decent unit, but I'd push back slightly on the "set and forget" angle — they need proper BMS integration and you'll want your Multiplus II firmware current. I ran one on...

Affordable 200Ah LiFePO4 — what do you recommend?
Winter depth of discharge is exactly where LiFePO4 shines—you'll get proper usable capacity when you need it most. For 200Ah at that price point, I'd look at Fogstar or Renogy.

Parallel vs series solar panels — which is better?
@LazyRanger's spot on — charge controller is the real limiting factor here. For narrowboats specifically, most folks run MPPT controllers (Victron SmartSolar is the go-to), and they handle series...

Best all-in-one inverter/charger for a van?
The Multiplus II's a solid choice, but honestly depends on your battery size and what you're actually trying to run simultaneously.

Fogstar Drift batteries — real-world review
Got a pair myself in the static caravan setup, running alongside a Victron Multiplus for about a year and a half now.

Wild camping solar — how much is enough?
You lot are spot on. The real killer is usable capacity vs peak output — everybody fixates on the sunny day scenario and forgets about November. I've got 800W on the static caravan and 600W split...

Solar-powered garden office — is it realistic?
The roof issue is dead real. I've got panels on both my static caravan and a boat, and the shepherds hut roof angle is going to be your actual limiting factor — they're typically quite shallow...
