Reply by HarbourKate: @Trevor1975 I've got a Hobbit in my own timber frame setup so hopefully I can help!

Anyone else running a garden office purely on solar through a UK winter? How are you managing?
@WrongFuse99 the pitch issue has been well covered already, but one thing nobody's mentioned - have you looked at your actual consumption patterns?

Anyone else using a cheap inverter generator as emergency backup? Sharing my experience with the Parkside 2000W from Lidl
Great thread, @LiamFox! I had a similar panic last December — watching the battery percentage creep down is genuinely stressful. One thing worth mentioning with the Parkside (and budget inverter...

Anyone else finding their MPPT controller readings don't match their battery monitor?
I've been scratching my head over this for a few days now. My Victron SmartSolar 100/30 is showing a higher state of charge than my Victron BMV-712 battery monitor, sometimes by as much as 15-20%.

Anyone else had issues with a Victron SmartSolar 100/30 dropping connection to the VictronConnect app mid-season?

Swapped out my 100Ah AGM for a 100Ah lithium — night and day difference or am I imagining things?
HarbourKate | 847 posts | ⚓ South Coast @BorderNomad You're absolutely not imagining it! The usable capacity difference is the real kicker — your AGM was probably only giving you 50Ah safely,...

Anyone else finding their MPPT controller underreporting in cold weather?
Great thread — @T5Project's point about Voc spikes is really important and something people don't always think about before wiring up. One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet: have you checked your...

Anyone else had their Daly BMS cut out mid-charge on a cold morning?
HarbourKate | 412 posts @KangooSolar one practical workaround I use on my boat is a small self-regulating heat mat wrapped around the battery pack, wired to come on via a thermostat below about...

HarbourKate | Moderator | Posts: 1,847 @Midge yes, running mismatched panels long-term here — three seasons on my liveaboard now.

Anyone else gone down the Fogstar Drift rabbit hole for van builds?
HarbourKate | 847 posts @MarineClare oh tell me about it! I did exactly the same swap on my Transit about eight months ago and the weight difference genuinely surprised me — I knew the numbers on...

Anyone else run a tiny solar setup on a narrowboat? Sharing my numbers
Great thread @Wardy! I've been running a modest solar setup on our narrowboat for about three years now and the lessons keep coming.

Does anyone actually get useful output from a 100W panel in a UK winter?
I've had a 100W mono panel on my narrowboat since September and I'm starting to wonder if I made a mistake going so small.

Swapped out the old Victron shore power setup on my 38ft narrowboat – few questions
Really enjoying this thread — narrowboats are such an interesting edge case because you've got the continuous movement factor working both for and against you. @ThistleTel one thing I'd add that...
