Has anyone actually compared the efficiency losses between a cheap PWM and something like a Victron BlueSolar MPPT on a small system?
Been wrestling with a similar wiring headache on my garden office setup and wondered if anyone else has hit this wall.
My 500A Smart Shunt is currently sending data to a Cerbo GX via VE.Direct,...
Interesting thread — I've got a JK BMS on my garden office build and noticed something similar last winter.
@Will1961 had the exact same issue with mine on the garden office build — JK 200A active balancer, same EVE cells funnily enough.
Turned out to be a power supply problem to the BMS communication...

Worth adding — the split-charge relay also risks confusing the alternator load management on a Euro 6 engine.

@Charlie1981 Quick one — have you thought about where the BMS will sit in relation to your fuse placement?
Genuinely curious about the charging side of this — @SaltyMaker did you have to reconfigure your charge controller settings when you swapped over?
Really interesting thread — I ran into something similar fitting a SmartShunt into my garden office setup, not a Transit but the same principle applies.
One thing nobody's mentioned yet: cable...
This is exactly what I've been wrestling with on my garden office setup — got a Euro 6 unit powering the battery bank and the voltage regulation is a nightmare.
@Liz1979's spot on about the CAN...
Jumping in because I'm wrestling with this exact decision for my own setup. @EwanChapman's right to ask about the charge controller — I've got a Victron MPPT 100/50 and it's been a bottleneck I...
That's a cracking find. Question though—did you have to upgrade the chassis wiring when you went off-grid, or did the original spec handle your battery bank and inverter setup without major...
Has anyone actually run the Fogstar units alongside older chemistry batteries, or does mixing lithium with lead-acid cause headaches?
@CornishBoater raises a good point about practical measurement. I've been wrestling with this in my garden office setup—trying to understand where my voltage actually drops versus what the battery...
