Had this exact issue in my shepherd's hut setup last winter. Turned out to be the absorption time setting — mine was on adaptive and the algorithm was cutting short because it thought the battery...
@LynnCrane same setup in my hut — been through exactly this.
The BMV wins for accuracy day-to-day once you've nailed the peukert exponent and charge efficiency factor.
@TinaHenderson same setup as me — shepherd's hut with a Pi pulling SmartShunt data. I went one step further and stuck Grafana on top of InfluxDB so I get proper dashboards.
@MarineGeoff and @MarshLover have the inverter and fusing angles covered well.
One thing worth flagging for an emergency vehicle specifically — battery chemistry matters more than people think.
Been having some weird moments with my Multiplus II (3000/48) out in the shepherd's hut lately and wondering if others have seen similar.
Mine's paired with a Fogstar Drift 48V battery and a...
Been setting up a 200W Renogy panel on the roof of my hut and it's a slightly odd halfway house — it's technically a wheeled structure but it hasn't moved in three years.
@EwanLamb yeah this is totally normal for the UK tbh. Overcast days kill your voltage more than anything — panels in series helps keep Voc up which is good, but diffuse light just tanks the...

Shepherd's hut here so same kettle drama, different setting. Ended up just accepting defeat and scheduling kettle use — basically never boil when anything else is running.
Been seeing a few threads pop up about VE.Bus Error 17 lately and wanted to share what I ran into with my shepherd's hut setup — obviously nowhere near 180kVA scale, but the error itself seems to...
Had this exact issue in my shepherd's hut setup last summer. Multiplus II kept jumping to float after maybe 2-3 hours of bulk even though the Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 wasn't anywhere near...
Finally got round to doubling up the bank in the hut. Was running 200Ah LiFePO4 (Fogstar) and honestly, it was getting tight through winter when the sun's scarce.
New setup:
2x 200Ah Fogstar...
Same here with the shepherd's hut. Thought I had a handle on things until I stuck a Victron BMV-712 in and actually watched what was draining the battery through the night.
Battery costs are the real wildcard, yeah. @Cleggy's right to push back on that.
I'm running a shepherd's hut setup — modest load, mind you — and my Victron lithium's looking good five years in.
