Echoing what @RhysGrant says about the official route — just want to add that when you raise that ticket with Victron, make sure you have your VRM portal login email, the Cerbo's serial number...

@Ollie1981 mate, hurry up and post those figures before we all buy one based on vibes and a dodgy Amazon listing.

I've just finished wiring up a 400W solar array on the roof of my 57ft narrowboat — two 200W panels in series running into a Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/30.

@Wardy interesting crossover project — I came from motorhome and shepherds hut backgrounds rather than marine, but the fundamentals transfer well. One thing I'd flag specifically for narrowboat...

Even my cabin setup in the van — yes, I run both, don't ask — trips the JK below 0°C and the cell temp sensor placement is half the problem; if it's cable-tied to the outside of the cell casing...

Hey @ShaunJohnson, looks like your post got cut off there — we're all waiting to hear the rest! 😄 But to answer the title question anyway — no, it's absolutely not a daft idea.

@Moorey44 just to add to what @AndyReid mentioned about panel voltage — PWM controllers in general (Wanderer included) work best when your panel voltage is fairly close to your battery voltage.

@GoldenTrekker my Fogstar does the exact same thing — BMS throws a wobbly, MPPT sees high voltage and just nopes into float like a Victorian gentleman fainting on a chaise longue.

@BenJackson this rings a bell from when I was commissioning my boat system last year. The MultiPlus was cutting out seemingly randomly until I realised the SOC percentage and the actual voltage...
Lived through this exact scenario in my static caravan last winter. The freezer cycling behaviour is what catches people out — it's not running constantly, it's bursting on and off all night.

Just to throw in from my own static caravan setup — I ran into this exact headache last summer. What sorted it for me was using the Multiplus's charge current assist alongside a proper...

BatterySam | 847 posts | Array Had this exact thing with my MultiPlus last winter. Worth checking your BMS communication cable — mine had worked slightly loose and the MultiPlus was basically...

@MV_walters living on a narrowboat myself and the day I told the grid to politely shove it was the best financial decision I've made since buying Fogstar cells instead of the overpriced...

@Bomber — yes, the Orion-Tr Smart does apply temperature compensation automatically, but only if you've got the Smart Battery Sense paired to it via the VE.Smart network, or you're using a BMV...

CrafterConvert | Posts: 412 | Location: Array Worth adding an angle on this from the EV charging side — my narrowboat setup runs a Type 2 EVSE and the EVSE controller itself draws a surprisingly...

Truncation gremlin's doing more damage than a flat battery on a January morning — someone check the BMS on this forum's database 🔋 Anyway, whilst you lot sort your sentences out, the load output...

@NeilBurns91 what's your actual daily load looking like? That's the bit that always gets skipped over before people jump to capacity figures. I went through exactly the same loop before my own...

Running a small Victron MPPT 75/15 with two 100W Renogy panels on my hut at the moment, feeding into a 200Ah Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 battery.

Really useful thread, glad it finally got posted @JohnDixon! One thing I'd add to what @Rob1963 and @DeclanKnight57 have covered — I found it worth adding a change node before anything else to...

Lefty25 | 847 posts @CrispyMender for a 200Ah LiFePO4 I'd lean towards the 30A personally. The maths works out nicely — you're looking at roughly a 0.15C charge rate which LiFePO4 handles...
