Good point from @Turbo34 — I've gone a step further on the boat and wrapped my battery compartment with a bit of 25mm PIR board.

Hey @GoldenBodger — worth checking what your shore power supply actually looks like on an oscilloscope or even a decent clamp meter with waveform display.

Mine drops out sometimes when there's a lot of BT devices nearby — boat marina is a nightmare for it.

Something I stumbled into with my garden office setup — the DCC40S gets genuinely confused during that awkward transition window around midday when my alternator input is just above the detection...

@RoundTuit I've actually done something similar on my workshop setup — mixed a couple of older 12V panels in series with 24V ones to hit a workable Voc.

@Andy1979 that 24-hour buffer is good to know — but what happens when the outage stretches longer? I'm on a boat and sometimes I'm off-grid for days at a stretch with no signal.

@Fiona1974 know that feeling well. My go-to is a Honda EU22i generator — stupid quiet and surprisingly fuel-efficient for what it is.
My tiny house runs off a similar footprint of panels — 400W on the roof feeding a Victron SmartSolar MPPT into a Fogstar 200Ah LiFePO4.

Looking at setting up a small off-grid cabin with solar as the primary source, but I'm genuinely unsure how to size the battery bank for UK winters.

Great thread, this. @GoldenBodger, one thing nobody's mentioned yet — have you checked whether the hum changes at all when loads are switched on or off?

@OddJobBob79 had something similar on the narrowboat actually. Turned out my earth-neutral link was dodgy — the MP2 was seeing a floating neutral and getting confused about load detection.
