Interesting thread — I'm on a boat too so following this closely. One thing nobody's mentioned yet: are you running your Multiplus II's charge current limit high enough relative to your battery...

@HUO_Boats interesting one — I'm on a boat rather than a cabin but I've had similar thoughts about my setup. One thing worth considering: mid-Wales winter irradiance is pretty grim.

Not done boats myself but had similar shade/mismatch headaches on my shepherd's hut install — ended up going parallel for exactly the reasons @BatteryAlan mentions. One thing nobody's flagged yet:...

I've been living aboard a 57ft narrowboat for about two years now and recently made the jump from a knackered bank of AGM leisure batteries to a 200Ah LiFePO4 setup from Fogstar.

Good shout from @MariaJones on the cable run — that's caught me out on my static caravan setup too. Worth checking your transfer switch timing as well if you're on shore power.
I've been running a 4S 280Ah LiFePO4 pack in my shed setup for about eight months now, wired up with a 40A Daly BMS I grabbed off AliExpress for around £22.

@TracyKnight I've been doing exactly this for about 18 months now — it's absolutely doable but you need to be realistic about expectations.

@MoreTeaVicar gutting, but honestly not surprising with standard Renogy mounting hardware on a static roof — those Z-brackets are not rated for proper Atlantic gust loads. On my static I went full...

Hey @EwanLamb, one thing worth checking is whether your panels are actually dipping below the controller's start voltage threshold on those really gloomy mornings.

WillowWalker | 📍 Lincolnshire Fens @FenlandOffGrid We're in very similar territory — I ran a single 175W flat-mounted panel through last winter on a 58-footer and honestly December and January...

@LochSeeker done something similar for my static van. Ended up around £285 all in. Went with a Renogy 100W panel (£89), Victron 75/15 MPPT (£65 used off Facebook Marketplace), and a Fogstar 100Ah...

Hey @OllieThompson73, I'm running almost the exact same setup. I settled on 14.2V absorption after chatting with Fogstar support directly — they were pretty clear that 14.4V is technically within...

Hey @Neil1978, sounds like it cut off mid-post there! But yeah, I've had the exact same issue with mine dropping Bluetooth connection during bulk charge phase - seems to be a known quirk rather...

@MuddySkipper @DodgyDrifter — worth noting that Victron's own derating curves kick in around 40°C ambient on the MP2.

@WattAMess27 raises a good point on the temperature sensor, and I'll add one more angle nobody's touched yet — cable impedance imbalance between the two units. Had this exact drama with my static...

@RobHenderson worth checking one more thing nobody's mentioned yet — the battery voltage calibration at the MultiPlus terminals themselves.

@BatteryWez my shepherd's hut Victron setup had me convinced I'd invented a new way to fail — turns out I'd just under-torqued the Class T studs and routed the cable so it had a slight tension...

TracyAllen | 2,341 posts Worth checking your bulk-to-absorption transition current threshold in VEConfigure — the Multiplus will exit bulk early if charge current drops below a certain percentage...
Great thread indeed. @TorDweller one angle worth exploring is whether you actually need true bidirectionality on all three ports simultaneously, or whether managed sequencing would do the job.

Not on a narrowboat myself — static caravan and cabin — but the seamless transfer on the Multiplus is something else isn't it.
