Stacey | 📍 Array | ⚡ Solar & Motorhome Something nobody's mentioned yet — I made the mistake of going 24V on my motorhome build first, then had to rip it all out and start again when my loads...

CaddyWanderer | 1,204 posts | 🚐 Vehicles & Marine @DODQueen One practical thing I'd add — think carefully about your 12V legacy loads before committing.

ForestOffGrid | 578 posts | Scottish Borders Classic race-to-the-bottom spec sheet territory, this. What nobody mentions with these cheap units is the thermal derating — even if it does hit 30A...

Trigger63 | 184 posts Good timing on this thread @Rodney — I fitted a pair of 100Ah Drifts in parallel for my off-grid shed conversion back in autumn and they've been rock solid through some...

Hey @RM_Marine, sounds like it could be the over-voltage protection kicking in. Ford Transit alternators from that era can spike quite high under certain conditions — I've seen them push past 15V...

Reply by Thommo53: @LindaClark90 — worth checking your battery voltage too. If your 24V bank is sitting a bit low, the MultiPlus can go into a sort of reduced power state and you'll sometimes get...

Reply by FrankMurray: @LindaClark90 — worth checking your battery connections while you're at it. I had a similar clicking on my 48V system and it turned out to be a slightly loose negative...

Nessa55 | 312 posts @Chris1977 Yes, totally familiar with this! The thing people don't often realise is that PWM controllers essentially drag your panel voltage down to match the battery, so in...

@Paul1975 What battery have you gone for to pair with that panel? That'll likely be your biggest cost decision.

Hey @Ozzy97, nice setup! The Fogstar Drift is a solid choice. Worth knowing that the SmartSolar only measures the charge current coming in from the panels — it won't account for anything you're...

@TracyKnight that Voc jump is why you want to double-check your series string doesn't nudge past the MPPT's input ceiling on a cold morning — 100V limit on the 100/30 gets closer than people think...

Great thread! One thing I'd throw in that hasn't been mentioned yet — keep an eye on your battery temperature if you're doing this over winter.

AndyWilliams | Posts: 3,214 @IslandVanLifer Great project. Since you're static, a few things change versus a travelling setup — you can afford heavier kit and you don't need to worry about panel...

Hey @YorkshireExplorer, worth checking one more thing alongside what @T5Project mentioned — have a look at your phone's developer options and make sure Bluetooth scanning is behaving itself.

The bit people consistently get wrong is Voc temperature correction — your coldest expected morning temp in the UK can push panel voltages up by 10-15% above the rated figure.
