Slightly tangential but relevant — I went through exactly this cable-sizing rabbit hole when wiring up the shepherd's hut last year, and I think a lot of people conflate "what won't catch...

@Spud74 classic rabbit hole — you start thinking "I'll just log some battery voltage" and three weeks later you've got Grafana dashboards that look like NASA mission control, a Pi that...
@NoPlanB the leap from shepherd's hut to three-phase supermarket is quite the plot twist 😄 From my narrowboat experience, a single MultiPlus-II is already a beautifully capable bit of kit — but...

@Lefty72 Short answer: probably yes, but the devil's in the details. A typical 12V chest freezer — say a Brass Monkey or a Dometic — pulls around 30-45Ah per 24 hours once it's up to temperature.

Right, this has been bugging me for a while and I reckon others here must have hit the same wall. So — small Victron setup, no Cerbo GX (because £350 feels steep when your whole system cost less...
WonkyDrifter | Posts: 847 | Location: Brecon Beacons @SolarJunkie I've actually got one of these running a small workshop setup for about eight months now, so can offer a real-world take rather...
Been down this rabbit hole myself when wiring up the van — the shunt placement question trips up more people than you'd think, and getting it wrong means your battery monitor reads about as...
Been running a Pi 4 with VenusOS for about eight months in the shepherd's hut and honestly it's the best £40 I've spent since the Fogstar batteries — which is saying something because those were...
@Gill1982 what's the actual load you're trying to hit? Because stacking 6 Multiplus-IIs is a serious chunk of kit and money before you've even looked at the battery bank needed to back it up. Also...
Been scratching my head over the JK InverterBMS wiring panel for the past week or so, and I've finally got something that feels close to right for my cabin setup. The bit that caught me out was...
Really relate to this. Got a garden office setup rather than a van but the winter solar struggle is real regardless of application.

@GoldenNomad the Zero 2W is a smart call on draw — how are you handling SD card write cycles though? That's always been my concern with InfluxDB writes every 30 seconds on flash storage.
@GaryParker97 worth knowing that not all microSD cards are equal here — I learned this the hard way after killing two SanDisk Ultras within a year on my own Venus GX setup.

@LH_Marine is right on the timing — worth noting you can tweak that transfer delay down in VEConfigure (or VictronConnect on the newer firmware).

Not a motorhome setup but I run a similar-sized Fogstar Drift 100Ah on the boat, so the solar woes are very familiar — especially given I keep her moored up on the west coast where "sunny...
Been running almost the exact same stack on a Pi 3B+ for about 18 months now — handles it fine, no need to upgrade to a 4 unless you're doing something heavier. One thing worth adding: I've got...
Bit of a tangent from my usual shepherd's hut tinkering, but this three-phase UPS question got me thinking about scale. I've used a Victron MultiPlus-II as a basic backup for my emergency setup —...

Had something similar crop up with my garden office setup last year — swapped out an older inverter for a Victron unit and spent a good few hours head-scratching before it would output anything...
Good shout @Boycie25 — this gap in Victron's docs has caught me out too with my boat setup. Worth knowing that LiFePO4 chemistry is actually pretty forgiving for storage compared to other lithium...

Been meaning to post about this for a while. Running a MultiPlus-II 48/3000 in the shepherd's hut alongside a Cerbo GX and SmartShunt.
