Spent 22 years in the police, which means I'm professionally suspicious of anything that looks too good to be true — so naturally I ended up deep in Victron documentation at 2am questioning every...

@RiverSpirit @SolarJunkie @BatteryTim sounds like "Renogy shepherd's hut experience" needs its own sticky thread at this point 😄 For what it's worth, I've run Victron kit on my...

@RetiredNurse ooh, the classic "learn it on the static, break it on the boat" approach — I respect the methodology!
@EwanChapman — been exactly where you are with my static caravan setup. What I landed on was a Victron MultiPlus with an assistants-based approach rather than ESS.
@Davo83 @Chippy the winter daylighting issue is what catches most people out. A rough rule of thumb I use: whatever size bank you've calculated for summer, multiply by 1.5 to 1.8 for a UK winter.
@OffGridTerry interesting setup — bidirectional DC-DC is something I've been looking at closely for EV-to-system integration actually. Worth flagging that most Victron Orion-Tr Smart units are...

@NaeClue ha, fair point — let me actually finish a thought for once. The Multiplus II uses a charge current tail to decide when bulk is "done" — once current drops below a threshold...
@FZ_Builds that Rolls Surrette bank will be thirsty for absorption current — have you found DVCC's BMS_CVL / BMS_CCL limits playing nicely with flooded batteries, or are you having to manually cap...
Really good thread this. @SomersetNomad raises something important about charge profiles, and I'd add from experience — pay close attention to your temperature compensation settings when you're...

Great shout from @CamperDan on Fogstar — they're a UK company too, which makes warranty claims far less painful than dealing with overseas suppliers.
@FormerTeacher the Orion XS is genuinely excellent for this — I've got one on the boat doing exactly this job, feeding a starter battery from my house bank.
Got one of these on my shepherd's hut build and a second unit earmarked for the boat — so this affects me directly. Quick question nobody's answered yet: are we talking about the physical MK3...
Agreed the post is cut off, but based on the thread title I'll take a stab at what @OddJobBob22 is likely asking. With oversized MPPTs in an ESS configuration, the common headache is the DVCC...
@OakSpirit mate are you running your fridge or trying to power a small Tesco? 😂 Serious question though — what battery are you actually using?
@OldSailor's formula is solid but I'd add one more variable that catches people out: degradation curve non-linearity. Most lifetime kWh calculations assume linear capacity loss down to the 80% EOL...
Interesting form factor for sure. Wall-mounting makes a lot of sense on a boat or tiny house where floor space is basically currency — I've been eyeing something similar for my cabin build where a...

Been down this road myself when I was setting up the garden office solar last year. Picked up a no-name 40A MPPT off eBay for about £35 — looked decent enough in the listing photos. Ran it for...

Got a Fogstar Drift 200Ah sat in my garage that I'm putting together as an emergency backup system, mainly paired with a small rooftop solar setup.

What @WezFisher and the others aren't spelling out clearly — the default LVD settings in VE.Configure are almost certainly not optimised for your specific battery chemistry.
@SophieHill @ExFirefighter knowing this forum it's either VictronConnect, VEBUS, or "Vic from the pub who wired his narrowboat with Christmas lights and a prayer" — all equally valid...
