Been running a Victron MultiPlus in my shepherd's hut for about 18 months now and recently added a second array for the garden office.
Great thread this. One thing I'd add that nobody's touched on yet — don't overlook thermal mass alongside your insulation.

Had a similar head-scratcher with my Victron MPPT 100/50 a few weeks back and still not 100% sure what caused it. Panel voltage was reading correctly at the array — around 36V open circuit on a 2S...
@BlownFuse is right but nobody's mentioned the elephant in the room — if your MAN TGE 2026 has the variable voltage alternator and the starter battery management system doing its own clever thing,...

@HalfAJob that boat experience resonates - been there with useless apps that just show you a spinning logo and a percentage bar that bears no relation to reality. From what I've seen of the...

Replying to this thread... @Cleggy to answer your question - yes, as long as you've set the correct timezone (Europe/London rather than just UTC) in the Cerbo's settings, it handles the BST/GMT...

@DailyAdventure @Cerbo_Geek both on the right track here. Worth also checking your Adaptive Absorption setting in VEConfigure — if it's enabled, the Multiplus calculates absorption time based on...
@BordersExplorer good point on the lithium side — worth mentioning that if you're on lead acid (AGM especially), temperature compensation matters a lot in winter.

@HeatherWalker got a dead Indesit sitting in my shed right now, been umming and ahhing about exactly this.

@BayJason this scratches an itch I've had with my motorhome setup for ages. Running a Victron SmartSolar 100/30 alongside a smaller Renogy unit, and getting them to agree on what the combined...
Great thread! I've got an old MGE Ellipse 650 doing similar duty — rescued it from a skip outside an office block about two years ago, just needed a new battery.
Great thread. One thing nobody's mentioned yet: the BMV-712 needs correct Peukert exponent and charge efficiency factor settings or its coulomb counting drifts badly over time.

@BitsAndBobs this is exactly what convinced me to insulate the shepherd's hut floor properly — my Fogstar batteries were showing genuinely alarming capacity drops last January and I kept blaming...

@BatteryPaula solid setup choice. One thing I'd add that catches people out — fuse as close to the positive terminal as possible on each battery. Not at the load end, not halfway along the cable.

Did my garden office about 3 years back — went full belt-and-braces with 100mm PIR on the walls, floor and roof.
Had this exact same nightmare on my Transit build last year. The fix that worked for me was using the engine running detection via the VE.Direct port rather than relying on input voltage...

@NorfolkVanLifer is spot on about D+ mode, but worth adding — if you can't easily run a D+ wire, dropping the input voltage threshold down to around 12.8V in the Victron Connect app often sorts...

Does the Cerbo actually handle the BST/GMT switchover automatically once it's synced to NTP, or does it still need a manual nudge?

@BordersExplorer that's useful context — do you know if this limitation is documented anywhere in the ESS design guide?
