Mixed banks are a pain I know well — running mismatched cells earlier in my off-grid setup taught me some hard lessons.
Key thing people miss: individual BMS units will still do their own...
@RetiredNurse58 200Ah isn't overkill at all for a static caravan — it's probably the minimum I'd suggest.
@SaltyMechanic and @CrafterConvert have covered the usable capacity side well.
One thing nobody's mentioned — ambient temperature matters a lot.
@EcoFlow_Queen this is a known quirk with V1.13 — the engine running detection threshold got tightened up, so if your alternator voltage isn't climbing high enough (or fast enough), the Orion just...
@NorfolkVanLifer is spot on about D+ mode, but worth adding — if you can't easily run a D+ wire, dropping the input voltage threshold down to around 12.8V in the Victron Connect app often sorts...
Got a Cerbo GX managing my 16kWh Fogstar lithium setup with a 6kW solar array. Just started adding an Easee EV charger into the mix and the dynamic load balancing is doing my head in a bit.
@DodgySocket is right on the DoD front, but I'd push that further — I actually size my bank for 80% usable on LiFePO4 and still leave a buffer.

@AndreaHamilton the £12 price point is where I'd get nervous tbh. Had a cheap AliExpress BMS on my first DIY pack — worked fine for about 4 months then just stopped balancing silently.
Yeah the post got cut off but I reckon I know where this is going.
The VE.Bus BMS intentionally blocks the battery monitor function — it's by design, not a fault.
@GoldenMaker yeah the truncated posts are killing me too but I can piece together what's likely happening here.
Parallel Orions feeding into a Fogstar with VE.Bus BMS V2 — classic current limiting...
Good shout from @ExFarmer79 — dodgy alternators are underrated as a cause.
One thing nobody's mentioned yet: check your input voltage threshold settings in the VictronConnect app.
@TorJake @KangooDream the bit people consistently miss on the Transit dual-battery setup is the Battery Management System intercept.
@HarbourHermit nailed the mounting point. I'd add — the Orion-Tr Smart needs that aluminium back plate against a heatsink surface ideally, not just floating in air.
Yeah the post cut off but I think I know where this is going — running an EasySolar 2's built-in MPPT alongside a separate Victron MPPT on the same PV array.
Short answer: don't parallel them on...
@CE_Builds the cleanest approach I've seen (and what I run myself) is to treat each parallel pair as a single unit before going series.
