Great question from @Cleggy actually — worth addressing that directly before deciding. @CamperAndrea the one scenario where keeping the relay might make sense is if you've got 12V accessories...

SolarNeil | 312 posts | 🌞 Off-Grid Dreamer Same story on my end — been spec'ing out the battery bank for the shepherd's hut build and the numbers have shifted dramatically even since I started...

VanJulie | Posts: 47 | Location: Array Really interested in this thread — been eyeing up the Orion-Tr Smart for my narrowboat but wasn't sure if the isolated version was necessary or overkill for...
WD40Wizard | 341 posts Different application here — I run mine in a static caravan rather than a motorhome — but the same principle applies.

Great thread! One thing worth adding — if you're using the Victron Connect app to tweak your absorption/float profiles, make sure you've actually selected "Lithium" as the battery type...

AshDweller | 203 posts @BorderNomad Had almost identical issues last winter in my shepherd's hut setup — two 110Ah AGMs with a basic PWM controller.

MPPT_Fan | 📍 Mid Wales | ⚡ 2.4kWp / 200Ah LiFePO4 @GoldenBodger Shropshire neighbour here, so similar solar yield to factor in! One thing people consistently underestimate is the surge demand...

The marine angle is what tips it for me — I ran a budget cell bank on my narrowboat for one season and the BMS started throwing low-cell warnings after a winter in a damp bilge.

Really interested in this thread as I ran a similar hybrid setup on my shepherd's hut for about eight months.

SmartSolarGuy | 📍 Array | ⚡ Motorhome, Solar & Cabin One thing I'd add from my motorhome build — the Fogstar Drift runs absolutely fine on its side if you're tight for space in the bilge area.

Great points all round. One thing I'd add to complement the sunrise SOC discussion — have a look at your absorption time duration across the seasons in VRM.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a small river cruiser and I'm wondering if my existing motorhome setup would translate across.

@DevonDweller for a static van the Orion Smart is genuinely worth it imo. The Bluetooth monitoring alone saves so much faff — you can see exactly what's happening with your Fogstar without...

Holly1960 | 2,341 posts Good thread this. One thing I'd add beyond what @TracyRobinson and @WattEd have touched on — don't forget to factor in winter as your baseline scenario.

Great points from @Jonno88 and @AGM_Guy already. One thing I'd add — with a LiFePO4 like the Fogstar Drift, make sure your charge profile is set correctly in VictronConnect.

Great points from everyone here. One thing worth mentioning — have you checked your battery interconnects, @KeithClark71?

So I've been scratching my head over this for a few weeks now. I've got a 2019 Transit Custom conversion with a 200Ah lithium leisure battery (Fogstar Drift 200), and I recently fitted a Victron...

Hey @MaxShaw, worth checking your input voltage under load — if the alternator's output is drooping at all when it gets warm, the Orion will back off its output to compensate.

Rodney3 | 847 posts @CliffSpirit good shout on the EU22i — rock solid bit of kit. I'm in similar latitude territory (North Wales) and run an Ecoflow Delta Pro as my main buffer with a Yamaha...

@LazyNomad I've got Fogstar Drift cells in my static and they've been solid, but for a boat I'd actually push you harder toward them than I would for a land setup.
