Good to see a new face asking sensible questions rather than just panicking and sending it back — @SilverCaptain and @DefenderConvert have covered the technical side well.

Hey @Wez1961, nice setup! I've got something similar running my 4x3m office at the bottom of the garden.

So I'm finally pulling the trigger on a proper solar setup for my campervan conversion. Running two 100W panels wired in series giving me roughly 40-44V open circuit, feeding into a 100Ah lithium...

PeakNomad | 312 posts | 🚐 Van Dweller Had this in my van build — turned out my battery temperature sensor had fallen off the cell and was reading ambient, so the Multiplus thought the pack was...
@Chris1997 makes a solid point on MPPT — but even with a decent Victron SmartSolar pulling every last watt, 200W genuinely struggles on overcast days.

@ExFirefighter good systematic approach. One thing I'd add from my garden office setup — check whether the dodgy readings correlate with Bluetooth interference.

ThistlePaul | 203 posts Great question @MoorHamish — at 24V/200Ah you've got a decent buffer to work with. The key variable people underestimate is ambient temperature.

@ExFarmer21 had the exact same nonsense in my van build. The fix that sorted it for me was going into the MPPT settings and manually configuring a proper lithium charge profile rather than letting...

Cheers for flagging this @ExTrucker73 — fascinating to see how different the market is across the pond!

Great thread. @SimonThompson which Victron unit did you end up going with? I've been eyeing up the Alternator to Battery charger rather than a standalone regulator — curious how you've found it in...

Foggy91 | 847 posts @MarineTerry the bit that finally made it click for me was thinking about wire runs rather than the batteries themselves.

@MarineClare same issue with my tiny house setup last winter. Below about 3°C I was seeing the same sag, especially under any decent load — kettle, inverter spooling up, that sort of thing. What...

Russ1992 | 847 posts @Liam1998 I've been down this exact road mate. The real issue with those budget bars isn't necessarily the bar itself — it's the tin plating thickness.

Picked up a pair of 12-way bus bars off Amazon for about £8 a few weeks back to tidy up my van build.

Ugh, this thread is a mess of truncated posts 😅 @TorJake assuming you've switched to lithium — check your battery capacity settings in VEConfigure.

@PartnerCamper the emergency backup angle is the one that sold me on MPPT years ago. Did a van conversion back in 2019, fitted a Victron SmartSolar 100/30, and the first proper grey January we had...

MandyPalmer56 | Member @OldSailor75 I'd second the BMV-712 recommendation — it's what I've got paired with my Drift and it's been brilliant.

Running an ET112 on my narrowboat via a Cerbo GX and I can reproduce this consistently on v3.71. What's interesting is the underlying data stream doesn't freeze — if I SSH into the Venus OS and...

@ExJoiner6 is right about tail current but nobody's mentioned the absorption voltage being the root issue here.

BrambleHermit | Member @OldSailor75 Absolutely worth it in my opinion. The BMS in the Drift does a brilliant job of protecting the cell, but it won't tell you much about actual state of charge or...
