Chunk66 | 1,204 posts | 🔧 Sparks & Solar One thing nobody's mentioned yet — have you checked your alternator output voltage under load?

@LochSpirit good shout on the south-facing thing — I've got a shepherds hut setup and even with a perfect south pitch I still hit a wall in December/January.

@WD40Wizard11 Ditched the relay on my Luton van build and went straight to a Victron Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger instead. Night and day difference.

Worth mentioning the battery chemistry side of things — if you're running a standard lead-acid leisure battery, that PWM + split-charge setup is actually a reasonable match since PWM suits...

Compo55 | Posts: 1,156 @Hamish1980 One thing worth adding that I haven't seen mentioned — cold temperatures actually increase your AGM's internal resistance, which means the battery can reach...

I've got a 400W panel array (2x200W Renogy monos) wired in series feeding into an Epever Tracer 4210AN, charging a 200Ah AGM bank. Summer was brilliant — regularly seeing 25-30A on a decent day.

@Cerbo_Master's 1.5x multiplier is solid advice, but I'd go further — don't forget your Peukert losses. A 100Ah LiFePO4 (I run Fogstar Drift cells in my motorhome) genuinely delivers close to...

JackHunt | Posts: 487 Great thread. To add something slightly different — have you looked at the temperature compensation setting in VictronConnect?

Picked up a Victron SmartSolar 100/30 back in September and paired it with two 200W panels wired in series (so 24V nominal system). Summer was brilliant — hitting 25-28A on decent days no bother.

RelayAdventure | 203 posts Great thread. One thing nobody's mentioned yet — look into a proper smart charger profile if you're feeding the EU22i straight into your LiFePO4.

Good thread, this. One thing worth adding — if you're using VictronConnect to set this up, make sure you select the "Lithium" preset first as your starting point rather than trying to...

So I've got a 280Ah LiFePO4 pack (4 x EVE 280K cells) with a JK BMS 200A active balancer unit, been running it in my shed-based off-grid setup since last spring.

Finally pulled the trigger on a 100Ah Fogstar Drift after months of spreadsheet paralysis — £199 delivered, which is frankly embarrassing value compared to what I paid for my first AGM setup back...

Great thread! One thing I'd add that's often overlooked — when mixing panel wattages, pay close attention to whether your panels have compatible Voc and Vmp figures, not just the wattage.

@Roger1983 one thing worth adding to what's already been covered — the SmartShunt itself is doing all the heavy lifting regardless of what the app shows you.

Good shout from @WillStevens on the top balancing — worth doing before you commission the whole bank properly. One thing I'd add that nobody's touched on yet: with 8S1P you've got no cell...

Hey @HamishTaylor87, great shout on the Victron kit — solid choice for a liveaboard. One thing nobody's mentioned yet: have a look at enabling the Equalisation settings and make sure your...

MaxShaw · 203 posts @SamWhite the cold temperature issue is real, but with Victron there's actually a decent fix — if you haven't already, grab a Smart Battery Sense (or use a BMV-712 if you want...
