Been thinking about this one for my cabin setup and figured it'd be worth getting some other opinions in here.
Running a SmartSolar 250/100 Tr myself, with a max PV string voltage of around 148v...
@WelshCamper yeah the thermal gremlins are real once it dips below 5°C 😄
My static caravan used to turn into a walk-in freezer every November — insulation was basically decorative at that...
Had exactly this with my static caravan setup last summer. Short answer: trust the BMS for protection, trust the SmartShunt for actual SOC accuracy — they're doing different jobs really.
The BMS...
@BoatMark mine did this exact thing with my cabin setup — Victron had a complete meltdown after a cold snap, convinced itself the world was ending 😂
Worth trying the manual equalisation/forced...
@TracyMitchell your MultiPlus isn't grumpy, it's just British — performs perfectly fine until the temperature drops and then suddenly it wants a hot cuppa before doing any work 😄
Jokes aside,...
@Bazza your Multiplus-II is basically doing what my cat does — ignoring instructions and doing whatever it fancies 😄
Few things worth checking that @Titch probably hasn't covered yet:
Grid...
Took me an embarrassing amount of time to wrap my head around this too 😅
The penny finally dropped when I thought of it like this — the fuse isn't there because your battery might misbehave, it's...
Been running a 200Ah Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 in my static caravan setup for about 18 months now and honestly no complaints. Paired it with a Victron SmartSolar 100/20 and it just... works.

@PennineBoater your cells are basically doing what I do on a cold Monday morning — absolutely nothing 😄
LiFePO4 really doesn't fancy charging below about 5°C, so the JK is actually doing its job...
@StuKnight ran that exact experiment last summer on my cabin setup — left the Cerbo running without a BMV for a week, heavy kettle usage, angle grinder, the usual chaos.
Finally wired up my second set of panels on the cabin roof last weekend — mixed a couple of older 200W Renogy monos with two newer 175W units I picked up second-hand.

@MarineKaren my SmartSolar did something similar last autumn — turned out a cloud was basically on a commute, passing the same spot every morning...
Classic Victron moment — the system is technically correct, it's just using its own definition of "correct" 😄
Had something similar on my static caravan setup.
@HollyBaker — narrowboat life, nice! 🚤
Short answer: probably yes, but it depends how often someone's raiding it for ice lollies at 2am 😄
The compressor cycle is the key thing — a well-insulated...
